Have you heard?

The San Francisco Giants are world champions! Although forever Twins fans, it has been impossible to ignore the Giants bandwagon... the nostalgia & excitement in the city is contagious.

We never really considered San Franciscans-- residents of the city of free love and nonviolence-- to be fanatic sports fans. Well, they definitely are. When the Giants made it to the playoffs, there was an explosion of orange and black. The Giants were all the buzz... every convo on the bus, at the grocery store, at the coffee shop all revolved around talk of the beloved team. The night of their victory was an all night party... impromptu fireworks and all!

Today, Wednesday, there was a parade to properly welcome the team home from Texas and celebrate the "happiest day" of dedicated fan's lives {or so they tell the local news channel}. I had the day off, so I joined the other estimated 1 MILLION fans downtown to watch the parade & take in the craziness.

As you can see, the streets were PACKED. MUNI (SF municipal transport) was almost out of commission. Reportedly 100,000 more passengers than usual just between the hours of 8-11am!

People were everywhere... climbing trees, light poles, construction trucks, bus stops & hanging out windows, store fronts... you name it, fans were there. Even the police got to take in the fun. My favorite part was all the homeless people thrilled at all the action :)

The main parade attraction was the cable cars with players in them. Sorry I couldn't score a photo... I was no where near close enough.

As you can see, it's a very exciting time in the big city! We're happy to have brought San Fran a little baseball luck this season ;)

We just hope next year it's the Twins!
